JAPAN

It’s hard to put into words what an extraordinary trip my first time out of the US was. Presented with the opportunity to experience a country I had always imagined myself visiting, I spent many months preparing for my first international trip. From getting a passport to acquiring a costly ticket, months of work paid off into what I can safely say is my favorite trip of all time. My only regret was staying for a two weeks. I expected to feeling culture shocked, and to some extent I could say I was, however the daily rituals and societal norms very quickly grow on you. From the ease of public transportation, the funny toilets, the plethora of anything-you-want vending machines, or the most insane customer service one could receive, it was hard going back to the US as so many things back home felt archaic and just plain inefficient. I hope to one day return to Japan and visit the places I didn’t have the time or money to check out before our untimely departure.
