Portland has been one of those cities most of my friends down in California wouldn’t stop talking about. They’d either visited or had planned on visiting, giving it this allure that there was something unique about it. I traveled here in mid February of 2022, just after the snow melt had taken place and the greenery was being nurtured by the excessive rainfall. The city itself was extremely interesting layout wise, everything felt so dense. We stuck closer to the western side of the city where it tended to be greener due to the massive amounts of tree cover that rolled over the hill separating Greater Portland and Beaverton. Every place we went out to eat here was marvelous. From old fish joints and German pubs to quirky pancake houses, I think this trip had the most consecutive wins in terms of good food out of any trip I’ve been on, there wasn’t one place the food disappointment. Admittedly the less-fortunate homeless population of Portland was something I personally wasn’t prepared for despite being from the Bay Area, another city with a sizeable homeless population. Despite the pretty bold, vulgar harrassment my group and I endured, Portland is a destination I’d very much like to spend another few days in in the future.
